Rayna Carruthers is a documentary photographer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her work has been influenced partly by a lifelong interest in migration, a passion rooted in her grandparents' experience of immigrating to the UK in the 1950s.
Driven by an interest in the Arabic language, Rayna spent a year in Jordan in 2022, where she learned spoken Arabic. While there, she documented the experiences of refugees awaiting resettlement. This experience deepened her interest in photojournalism as a form of storytelling.
Currently, Rayna is studying Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh, where she continues to examine a variety of themes related to migration, gender, violence and identity. Rayna speaks English, Arabic and can get by in Spanish.
